Horror Stories

The classification of "Horror Stories" includes anything that "instills fear." As such, this course will examine a diverse collection of suspenseful literary texts and films, both fictional and realistic, from a variety of authors. Students will be expected to explore elements, effects, themes, and purposes of these stories, as well as discover the inter-relationship between this genre and society. Literary elements examined will include: plot, characterization, symbolism, and theme, author's use of figurative language, style, voice, and tone.

Required coursework will include compare/contrast essays, one persuasive essay, individual and group projects, daily journal entries, homework assignments, and participation in class discussions. Various assessments will also be given as we work through and complete each unit.
