Influenza

St. Clair County Health Department (SCCHD) would like to remind parents that flu season is here!  On January 4th, 2013 influenza became widespread throughout Michigan.  Locally, St. Clair County continues to see increases in flu cases.  SCCHD is asking schools, parents and students to become "flu fighters" and help beat the flu this season.  Helpful prevention tips include:

  • Stay home when you are sick.  Avoid going to school, work or being out in the public for at least 24 hours after being fever free (without the use of medications).
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.  Social distancing helps protect you and others.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing.  Throw used tissues in the trash.  Wash your hands after coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash your hands frequently.  Washing your hands protects you from germs.  Washing with soap and water is the best method.  If you are not near water, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  Germs can be spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Get vaccinated against the flu.  Contact your physician, pharmacy or health department for questions about vaccine availability.
  • Contact your doctor is you are sick and are not getting better.

For more informatio, visit www.stclaircounty/org/health; www.michigan.gov/flu; or www.flu.gov.

Sincerely,

Dr. Annette Mercatante, MD, MPH

Medical Health Officer

  • cough
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • body aches
  • diarrhea and vomiting (in children)

Box Tops and Labels for Education

With some extra help this week from CES parents and children and friends of CES, we have gone over the top with our box top/labels collections. We collected $2014.90 in boxtops and 25,880 points of labels for education points. What a great job by all of you.

Please continue to collect boxtops and labels. Our goal for this school year is $5000 and 70000 points in labels. A motivational goal is posted across from the office. We are going to try and collect $2000 in boxtops and 30000 points by spring break and the remainder by the closing of the school year.

The labels for education usually pays for our

Physical education equipment for the next year and the box top monies goes toward student needs.

Please remember to network with relatives, friends, bus drivers and community to support this program. With all of us working together, WE CAN MEET THIS GOAL.
